Calling all Diesel Mechanics.... .

SO..... going to look at a 2003 F350 (single rear wheel) tomorrow. 120K miles... Low for that year model... Of Course, it has the 6.0... But The ad claims all bulletproofing has been done...

"EVERYTHING HAS BEEN UPGRADED AND BULLET PROOFED"

"NEW HIGH AND LOW OIL PUMPS, NEW INJECTOR O-RINGS, EGR DELETE, EXHAUST..."

Doesn't say anything about head studs and I know they were a problem. I read an article written by a diesel mechanic saying if bulletproofed, he prefered the 6.0 over the 6.4 and 6.7... That given the correct parts (all the bulletproof stuff) a 6.0 could easily be taken to 500K miles with no worries.

What do ya'll think?

Old post I know but I maintain a fleet with seven 6.0's....

03-04 are the worst years, being the first. Several changes made 04.5+ that help, including the HPOP(complete redesign) and wiring harness(which still needs the International replacement to be better, but will still have problems over time). - It's best stated that the 6.0 is F1 engineering with Chinese execution.

"Bulletproof" my @zz, all ours are deleted/studded/tow tuned, religious 3k mile oil changes, all still go down "randomly and frequently" due to various issues that there simply are no cures for.

Anyone who'd take a "bulletproof" 6.0 over a 6.7 is a few crayons short of a full box.

I'm getting to the final stages of the build on my ol '95 Suburban, can't even begin to justify a new truck these days.

My company daily is an '05 F350 SRW 6.0. Boss tells me to treat it and drive it like it's my own, so it sees a trip with the bikes from time to time and such. It's been "bulletproofed" for 5-6 years, still never know when it's going to just shut-off or not start due to an IPR, HPOP, ICP, or harness related issue. - Erie feeling being 2-3hrs from home out in the woods and knowing it could just randomly go down at any given point.
