When I put the pipe and filter on i rejetted the main jets with 165's. The stock jets were 155's. I didnt mess with the needs or A/F screws. And the bike ran fine.

Now with the snorkel I have a small backfire/popping issue from 1/8th to 1/4 throttle. It will clear if I give it a shot of throttle but will come back in a matter of 30 seconds of ridding at 1/4 throttle. WO throttle its fine, idle is fine and it fires right up on choke when its cold and with out choke when its warm. I dont have to give it a shot of throttle to start it.

Whatcha think? Thanks!
this is an indication of lean on the pilots. we'll see what ol mark says

If you have factory needles still in it...shim them up some. You can use and spark plug gap checker to measure the washer sizes. Try to get as close to 0.040 as possible. That should clear that up hopefully.

What kinds snorkels are you going to do? I got a friend with an 06 700 with center snorkels..if you need info on those let me know as well.

Another thing...your bike could have the same exhaust mods as one next to it and be jetted totally different.
Hey Bootlegger, if you have info on those centre snorkels that would be great. 04 and 06 years are the same. Also I added a new Dynatek CDI and #4 shim on the needles, A/F @ 2.5 turns and bike runs much better now. I am still running stock jets. No hesitation now when hammering down. I just ordered a full muzzy instead of a HMF and will do 2" center snorks will these balance one another out? What would a typical scenario be, should I start by to going up in sizes for this setup? I am going to use OEM jets, I hear dynojet kits don't work so well on the prairie. Thanks for you help and insight.

Do you have a Dynojet kit in it? If so, raise the clips on the needles up one notch. That will lower the needle further down to lean it out some.

Put a new plug in your bike or just clean the old one. Ride it around for a bit and then let it cool off and pull the plug and let me know how black it is or if its a whiteish color. It can do that from both lean or rich...that is the easiest way to tell.

you will more than likely have to rejet.

Side note:

about the k&n I dont know if you know this but its has been said several times that those filters let dust & dirt by on the brutes. From everything ive read a uni filter is the way to go on a brute. Just thought id share that with ya.

This will get you close or may be right on. I would start out with a 140 Front and 144 rear, Needle clips 4th notch down from the top and air/fuel screw out 2.5 turns. You may have to go up or down one size....but that should be very close. Let me know if I can help in any way.

The air/fuel screws on the bottom of each carb. Tighten them up then start backing them out till it idles correctly. Probably about 2 turns out.

Has anyone ever jetted a Prairie 300 or one bout that size? It kinda hesitates when "romped on" and dont seem like it completely revs out. Other then that just fine. Im just looking for some tips if there are any. Mods listed in signature.
