ok here is how you do the Buss Connector fix, i think the factory fixed it from 06 on so it should only be for the 05s

First off you need disconect the battery. then remove the rear rack and fender so you can get to the fuel tank

This is the wiring harness your looking for

You need to take the tape off the get to the little white connector, which is the white thing in the pic

After you locate and take the tape off of the connector you can start to remove the wires
There are 6 to 8 Black with a yellow stripe wires, remove them

After removing the black/yellow ones then remove the 4 Brown ones and then the 4 white ones. once there all removed from the connector you can start to wire the like colors into groups like this

so you should have 6 or 8 Black/Yellow wires in one group. then 4 Brown wires in a group. then the 4 White wires in a group. now that there all seperated you can use one wire nut for each group. after your done wire nuting i usually put DI-Electric grease in the wire nuts once that is done you can start to tape the whole wiring harness back up and put your fenders and rack back on

i think thats it if im missing somthing tell me and i will add it
Thanks

I have an 06 650 sra and my 4x4 won't engage. hit the switch and nothing happens. wondering if its this, or the actuator?
Im pretty sure my buss needs fixed, i am having problems with my fan not kicking on automatically so i pushed on that area of wires when my temp was at like 220 and my fan kicked on...so buss fix here i come!
so thats what was wrong with my old brute:(
You guys were spot on. I removed the rear buss connector and twisted the like colors together and the fan came on and it fired right up! The plastic connector didn't look that bad but, I could see some green/blue corrosion within.

What is the best way to keep the wires connected? I have some outdoor lighting twist caps with dilectric grease in them. Could I install these and wrap in electrical tape?

Thanks,
Todd

The best way is to solder then and use heat-shrink tubing with a dab of clear RTV inside before shrinking. Then tape it all back into the harnace.
Any other ideas

I have been having all problems described we have changed the stator the regulator and gone thru three batteries i found this thread so we did the buss connector and thought we were home free took a drive yesterday all was fine an hour in bike started to bog out and lost all power ???
is there another buss connector or anything else relating to the fan i should check?
The 06's actually have 3 one in the rear the most common to go out one in front on the same side as the rear and one on the opposite side in the front. But the fronts rarely give trouble.
i did the buss fix and now if i hook all 4 white wires together everthing is on.key is off, kill switch is off,and yet everything is powered up.i found that i needed to hook the 2 heavier whites seperate from the lighter gauge white.problem is now it won't go into 4wd.i'm getting 4.9 volts to the actuator and switch but not 12 volts.any ideas where i go from here?

thanks

p.s. 4wd worked fine before

Good info on here guys, thanks!

I have an 07 and the display pod never powers down fully & the 4x4 was working intermittently and now not at all. The 07s don't have the bus issue right? Could there be similar bad connection issues with the 07? Where do I start looking?

KEBC & 4x4 actuator power on fine, seem clean, only thing that looks weird is some wear on the block on the end of the actuator, see pic. There is a "U" shaped wear line into the metal. Do you just tap out that small side pin or what?

My 05 did the same thing.. Well I wired it up like you said and my 4 wheel drive and speedo isn't working.. Have any of y'all seen a speedo censor burn up from touching the wrong wires together?

This was the problem I was having and the Bus Connector was the fix.
05 brute

i was out the other day giving a buddy a jump in the woods and the fuse for the ignition got hot and started melting so we pulled the fuse and of course it wont start long story short i have to put the fuse in start the bike and pull the fuse out because after a few seconds it gets hot and starts to melt it will run without the fuse in but only to a 1/4 throttle its charging because i can run the fan and the lights and ive checked when i put the fuse back in it will rev up like it should is it possible that this connector is my problem ?
could this also happen on an 07 ? ive recently replaced my battery and its having similair issues . i could be out for a ride and my instruments would shut off and it would run like a bag of garbage leaving me to ride home at 8 mph popping and farting . Any other suggestions if this isnt it ?
no they did away w/ it on the 07
